Why Your Garage Door Opener Wall Button is Flashing

Wall-mounted flashing electrical panel console

A blinking LED light on the wall button console highlights specific diagnostic system fault codes.

If your garage door won't respond to your remote controls, and you notice the light on your wall-mounted control panel is flashing, your opener is trying to signal a diagnostic error code.

Common Causes of a Flashing Wall Button

This flashing light usually indicates:

  • "Lockout Mode" is Activated: This is the most common cause. The lock button on the console was accidentally pressed, disabling all remotes. Press and hold the lock button for 3 seconds to deactivate it.
  • Safety Sensor Misalignment: If the safety sensors are misaligned or blocked, the wall console light will flash to warn you that the door cannot close safely.
  • Short Circuit: A short circuit in the wiring between the wall console and the motor unit will cause the system to flash.
