Garage Door Cable Replacement

Garage door cables work in unison with torsion and extension springs to support and lift the heavy door panels. Made of aircraft-grade braided steel, these cables are subjected to constant friction and high tension. Over time, moisture, salt air, and regular use cause cables to rust, fray, and eventually snap.

Warning: Do Not Operate a Door with Damaged Cables

If your garage door cable has snapped or is visibly fraying, **do not attempt to open or close the door**. Operating it can cause the door to fall crookedly, bending the metal tracks, damaging the opener, or falling off completely, presenting a massive hazard.

Snapped and frayed garage door lift cable

Frayed steel lift cable that has lost tension and needs immediate replacement.

Garage door roller wheel slipped off steel track

Re-aligning the rollers and replacing cables to get the door rolling safely.

Symptoms of Failing Cables

  • Visibly frayed or unraveling steel wire strands.
  • The garage door hangs crookedly or is unbalanced when open.
  • Cables are loose, hanging off the drum, or wrapped around the shaft.
